
The New York State Society of CPAs is saddened to share the news that longtime member Elliot Hendler, CPA, passed away on Oct. 9. Elliot was a dedicated member of the Society for more than 60 years and remained a valued contributor to the accounting profession until his passing. His distinguished record of service and stellar reputation placed him in a class of his own.
Over the course of his membership, Elliot held numerous leadership roles within the Society, including serving on the Board of Directors as director, secretary, and vice president. He was also a member of the Executive Committee and the FAE Board of Trustees. His committee leadership included serving as chair of the Accounting and Review Services, Audit Sampling and Analytical Techniques, Membership, Professional Ethics, and Quality Control and Practice Assistance Committees.
Additionally, he was active in the Manhattan/Bronx Chapter, where he served on the Executive Board and as Membership Chair. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Elliot received the NYCPA Distinguished Service Award in 2009—an honor reserved for members who demonstrate outstanding leadership and service to the Society and the profession.
At the time of his passing, Elliot continued to be deeply involved in the Society’s work. He was an active member of the communities of Accounting and Auditing Oversight, SEC, Sustainability Accounting and Reporting and Chair of the Professional Ethics Committee. He also served on The CPA Journal Editorial Advisory Board.
Elliot’s legacy of service and professionalism leaves a lasting impact. He will be greatly missed.
