The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Announces the 2022 Excellence in Financial Journalism Award Winners and Keynote Speaker
NEW YORK – (June 17, 2022) - For more than 30 years, the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) has recognized the best business and financial reporting through its Excellence in Financial Journalism (EFJ) Awards.
Broadcast, print, radio/podcast and online news organizations and reporters were asked to submit financial news stories that were published, posted or aired between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2021. Business book authors and publishers also entered this international contest. Student journalists at colleges and universities entered in our NextGen category.
Winners were selected by a panel of judges comprising NYSSCPA members and financial journalists, who ranked submissions on accuracy, quality and thoroughness of research, as well as on an accurate and nonpartisan representation of the topic.

This year’s EFJ Awards judges were Scott M. Adair, Rumbi Bwerinofa-Petrozzello, Elliot L. Hendler, Susan Rodetis, Michael Zaydon and Leah Spiro. The 2022 EFJ book judges were Justin Baer and Susan M. Barossi.
Cory Schouten will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. Mr. Schouten is the editor-in-chief at Crain’s New York Business and an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University’s Journalism School. The former Wall Street Journal newsroom leader strives to pair excellence and joy in his work-life balance. A proud Hoosier, Schouten is a graduate of Indiana University and Columbia University.
The presentation of the EFJ Awards will take place on June 24, 2022, at Tribeca Grill, during a hybrid ceremony.
