NYSSCPA CEO/Executive Director Releases Statement Regarding Systemic Racism
NEW YORK (June 5, 2020) – The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Joanne S. Barry released a statement on the Society’s behalf calling for its members to “Stand Together.”
“With the collective voice of our organization and the CPA profession,” she stated, “with reach across the state of New York and beyond, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to make a difference.”
Barry highlighted key programs that help introduce and train students of color to the CPA profession, and educate members on diversity, equality, and inclusion. Barry also noted that she has signed the CEOs for Action & Diversity pledge, where she has committed the NYSSCPA to staying and further becoming as diverse and inclusive as possible.
The NYSSCPA sponsors programs that seek to bring diversity to the CPA profession. “I know we have much more work to do and this is where I call on you, our members,” Barry stated. She urged CPAs “to be the voice of change in [their] communities. It is incumbent upon all of us to be allies, and speak and work against injustice.”
