Ready for Your Close-up? Get Set to Make Your TV or Radio Debut

What do local TV stations and newspapers, national business and finance magazines and trade outlets like the CPA Practice Advisor all have in common? They regularly seek out NYSSCPA members to serve as experts for their stories.

In the past year, there have been hundreds of media opportunities for CPAs just like you to deliver the Society’s message about tax planning, the Affordable Care Act, tax inversions, DOMA, audit quality, non-profit governance and estate planning, among other subjects. But do you know how to distinguish between the topic matter and the topic message?

Learn about this—and why dealing with the media is a great way to build your brand, boost credibility and attract new clients—at the Society’s 2015 media training seminar, “Transform Your Message Into News.” This free seminar takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the NYSSCPA's 14 Wall Street office in New York City and will also be webcast.

Lead by members of the Society’s communications department, all of whom are former professional journalists, the seminar will equip members with the latest tools to interact effectively with journalists and present their firms, chapters and the Society in the best possible light. Topics include:

--Understanding the media and recognizing what reporters want
--Why audiences matter
--Interview preparation
--Maintaining control, staying on message and recognizing and responding to different interview styles
--How to collaborate with the Society’s media relations team and become one of the its go-to CPAs for media requests

Interested? To attend in person or watch via webcast, please email Alonza Robertson, NYSSCPA media relations manager, by Monday Sept. 14 and reserve your spot.
