Poll Finds 15 Percent of Remote Workers Play Video Games During Zoom Meetings

A recent poll of 1,000 working adults has found that 15 percent of remote workers aren't paying attention during their Zoom meetings because they're playing video games instead. What's more, managers were found to be more avid gamers than their subordinates, said Fast Company. The survey was conducted by Word Tips, a word-finding web page for word game players.

Specifically, the survey found that one third of remote workers have played video games during work hours, 15 percent have done so during virtual meetings, 29 percent admitted missing meetings altogether because they were gaming, and one third said they made mistakes during meetings because they were playing games. This, however, was the overall average. The survey also found that 86 percent of managers played video games sometime during work hours in the past week, around 54 minutes on average, and 10 percent have done so during in-person meetings.

Exactly what games people were playing during virtual meetings depended on how they were accessing the call. Those on mobile devices were most likely playing Candy Crush, Angry Birds, Words with Friends, Tetris or Sudoku. If they were accessing the meeting via laptop or desktop, they were most likely playing solitaire, Minecraft, Fortnight, Counterstrike: Global Offensive, or Runescape.
