KPMG Paying $50 Million Penalty for Illicit Use of PCAOB Data and Cheating on Training Exams
Washington D.C., June 17, 2019 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged KPMG LLP with altering past audit work after receiving stolen information about inspections of the firm that would be conducted by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The SEC’s order also finds that numerous KPMG audit professionals cheated on internal training exams by improperly sharing answers and manipulating test results.
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Affiliate to Pay More Than $42 Million for Improper Handling of ADRs
Washington D.C., June 14, 2019 —The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Financial Services LLC (ICBCFS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, will pay more than $42 million to settle charges for improper handling of “pre-released” American Depositary Receipts (ADRs). The settlement marks the largest recovery against a broker in the SEC’s ongoing investigation of ADR practices, which thus far has resulted in settlements with 10 financial institutions exceeding $414 million

SEC Updates List of Firms Using Inaccurate Information to Solicit Investors
Washington D.C., June 10, 2019 —The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that it updated its list of unregistered entities that use misleading information to solicit primarily non-U.S. investors, adding 11 soliciting entities, four impersonators of genuine firms, and nine bogus regulators.
