Student Loan Delinquency or Default No Longer a Barrier to PPP Loans

Struggling student loan borrowers will now be able to access Paycheck Protection Program  loans under new rules from the White House, reported CNBC. Previously, those who were delinquent or had defaulted on their loans were disqualified from accessing the program despite the fact that over a third of borrowers will do one or the other at some point. The previous ban even affected businesses where not all the owners defaulted or were delinquent, as it applied to those who were more than 20 percent owned by such  individuals. Starting in March, though, this rule will no longer apply.

While President Biden during his campaign hinted at forgiving up to $50,000 in student loan debt, recently he has said he'd be more comfortable with $10,000 instead, which has led to conflicts with some Democratic leaders who insist that he work toward forgiving the $50,000 sum previously discussed.
