New York City has formally launched its Fine and Interest Reduction Recovery program, which will allow businesses to apply for of up to 75 percent on delinquent fines issued by city agencies including the sanitation, fire and buildings departments, said Crain's New York.  

Businesses and individuals that went into judgment between March 7 last year and June 20 this year that did not receive a default penalty can receive a 75 percent discount off the base fine and interest. If the penalty was imposed before March 7 2020, then the discount will be 25 percent instead. If, however, an individual received a default judgment due to a failure to appear before a hearing at the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, then they are eligible only for a reduction of the default penalty and interest, versus the base fine. 

Crain's said that the city sent notice of the program to those who currently have default judgments, but will soon begin a wider awareness campaign around the end of this month. 

Those wishing to participate in the discount program will have until Dec. 20 to apply.
