Architect Lisa Heschong, in an interview for the podcast 99 Percent Invisible, said that because we all have different temperature preferences, no workplace will be able to set a climate that pleases 100 percent of the people there. In the same podcast, Gail Brager, a professor of environmental design, says that it's very energy intensive to control the temperature of entire offices. She suggests that, in order to avoid turf wars over temperature, design should go in the direction of heating and cooling individuals rather than entire spaces, such as with the use of desk fans, foot warmers and cooling chairs.
