Nov. 10 is Accounting Appreciation Day, when the world celebrates the accounting professionals who keep business moving, according to CPA Practice Advisor.
Accounting Appreciation Day, also called Accounting Day, began in 1972 in San Diego as an initiative by either the San Diego Chapter of the California Society of CPAs or the Institute of Management Accountants, depending on whom you ask. The Nov. 10 date was apparently selected because that is when Luca Bartolomeo de Paciolo published his groundbreaking work "Summa de Arithmetica, Geometria, Proportioni et Proportionalita."
Staffing firm Robert Half recommended that businesses show their appreciation for their accounting and finance staff through more than a just thumbs up. Beyond written and verbal praise, accounting professionals would likely appreciate gift certificates or just plain old cash bonuses. Or, if one wishes to be less monetary, businesses can offer training and education, or "wish list" deliveries (e.g., replacing the printer that's always breaking, upgrading to better software, etc.)
