Is the Traditional Resume on Its Way Out? Gen Z Thinks So

undefined

A new survey from CVwizard.com reveals that 62% of Gen Z believes traditional resumes will be obsolete by 2028.

According to a report by Newsweek, this shift reflects a broader change in how young professionals approach job hunting, relying more on AI-driven applications, skills-based hiring and professional networking platforms over standard resumes.

With Gen Z projected to make up 58% of the global workforce by 2030, their preferences could reshape hiring processes. Already, 88% use online job boards, and 36% leverage artificial intelligence to refine applications. These digital-first job-seeking habits highlight a move away from static documents toward dynamic and skills-based assessments.

Experts agree that resumes are losing influence. Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor, notes that social media networking and streamlined employer applications have replaced traditional resumes in many industries.

Similarly, HR consultant Bryan Driscoll argues that resumes often fail to accurately reflect a candidate’s skills, favoring polished experience over actual ability.

While resumes may not disappear entirely, hiring is evolving. Skills-based assessments, AI-driven screening and direct networking are becoming more prominent. Companies that fail to adapt risk missing out on top talent.
