Growing Number of Offices Won't Reopen Until at Least Next Summer

A growing number of companies are pushing back reopening dates for their offices even further, with some now saying reopenings won't happen until at least July 2021, according to the New York Times. This was after these companies had projected reopening in January, which came after they had projected reopening after Labor Day, which came after they projected reopening in the summer. Companies that are now saying they will reopen their offices in the summer of 2021 include Google, Slack, Uber, Airbnb, Microsoft, Target, Ford Motor, and the New York Times, among many others.

And this is not even counting the companies, such as Twitter or CoinBase, that are considering permanent telework policies so that their employees will never have to return to the office again.

The Times noted that the new dates represent an acknowledgement that the pandemic will likely be around longer than first anticipated. Rather than seeing the situation as a disruption to what is normal, many appear to be reconciling themselves to this being the new normal, at least for the foreseeable future.
