A Letter from the Comptroller of The City of New York, Scott M. Stringer

October 1, 2015

Dear TaxStringer readers:

I am pleased to join with you in saluting the fifth anniversary of this respected publication.

As the Comptroller of The City of New York, my chief goal is to ensure that every tax dollar is used in a fiscally prudent manner--and to hold city agencies accountable for those funds. And we share a fundamental goal with TaxStringer:

Just as government has a duty to make every dollar count, and protect its assets, tax advisers have an obligation to prudently and responsibly save their clients’ money.

Both have a role to play in honest, transparent governance—and that’s why I welcome a partnership between my office and CPAs who help taxpayers navigate complicated laws and regulations.

Finally, I want to assure you that our office believes in full disclosure: while we share a last name, there is no family relationship between me and this publication!

Again, I’m delighted to offer my congratulations to you for five great years of supporting New York’s CPA tax professionals. Your hard work has helped millions of Empire State and New York City taxpayers -- and they in turn have helped us sustain essential City facilities and services.
