Poll: Gen X Most Pessimistic About One Day Being Rich

  • * 35-44: 56 percent agree / 17 percent strongly agree
  • * 45-54: 47 percent agree / 7 percent strongly agree
  • * 55-64: 52 percent agree / 10 percent strongly agree
  • * Over 65: 57 percent agree / 15 percent strongly agree

The poll also found widespread pessimism that things will get better with time, as 54 percent of respondents believe they will be less prosperous than their parents. While the percentages are different depending on the respondent's economic class, even 50 percent of upper-income Americans believe this; 63 percent of lower-income Americans do as well.
