The massive shift to online learning for many colleges has not made them less expensive or even stopped their rising costs, but a recent report has found that the rate of tuition growth is lower than it has been in years, according to CNBC. The College Board released data showing that, between the 2019-2020 school year and the 2020-21 school year, the average tuition paid by in-state residents at public four-year institutions increased by 1.1 percent; at private nonprofit schools, costs increased by 2.1 percent. CNBC noted that, historically, college tuition grows at an average rate of roughly 3 percent a year, making this year's increase the lowest in 30 years. At this point, average tuition this year is approximately $37,650 at private colleges, $10,560 at public colleges and $3,770 at public community colleges. CNBC also noted that many universities have made a commitment to freeze tuition.
