These problems are certainly not unique to the accounting profession, and their presence within it are only reflective of an issue that exists throughout society: often times, people don't think of mental illnesses as actual medical conditions in need of treatment and instead characterize them as some sort of personal failing, a view that discourages people from getting the help they need, both in terms of culture and policy. The author called on firms, and those who work within them, to change this mindset and offer a more supportive environment for people who suffer with mental illnesses.
