How much are you charging to prepare a Form 1040? If it's $176, you're right about average, according to a recent article in Accounting Today. This makes the average fee $17 more than it was two years ago. The figures, drawn from a survey conducted by the National Society of Accountants, assumes a 1040 and a state return with no itemized deductions. The average price to prepare a Schedule A along with a state return, though, has not budged in two years, remaining at around $273. Other average fees revealed by the survey include: 

• $184 for a 1040 Schedule C;
• $124 for Schedule D;
• $135 for Schedule E;
• $656 for a 1065;
• $826 for an 1120;
• $733 for a 990;
• $282 for a 3115;
• $59 for an 8962;
• $53 for an 8965;
• $58 for a 1095‐A; and,
• $57 for a shared responsibility payment calculation.
