Many Consumers Turn to Generative AI for Guidance

undefined

A survey from financial comparison platform BestMoney suggests that many consumers are turning to generative AI for guidance, even when the tools lack context. In the poll, 82% of respondents said they trust AI for financial information, and 58% reported using it, with 82% saying they use it more frequently than 12 months ago. The most common questions center on investing, budgeting, and saving, followed by taxes and retirement planning.

According to Accounting Today, use of generative AI has been frequent since half of respondents said they use AI “some of the time,” while 29% use it “most of the time,” and 7% use it “all the time,” and the main draws were speed, cost, and responsiveness.  Quality ranked lower as a motivator, and 38% of respondents said AI advice is “too generic.”

The stronger signal was behavior, 76% said they had acted based on AI guidance. BestMoney urged a more cautious approach, with senior editor Yoni Cohen noting, “AI is a fantastic way to educate yourself and get quick answers to simple financial questions, and we encourage people to use it that way,” while stressing that major decisions still benefit from professional judgement and nuance.
