Do I have to be a member of the Society?ⓘ
Yes, committee service is a member benefit. You may also serve on a committee as an associate member.
Is there a fee to join a committee? ⓘ
No. Committee membership is included in your member benefits.
How often do committee meet? ⓘ
Depending on the individual committees, meetings can be scheduled anywhere from once a month to quarterly. Committee members receive meeting notices approximately two weeks prior to the event date.
How long do committee meetings last? ⓘ
Duration of meetings depend on each individual committee, which can range from a half hour to two hours.
Do all meetings take place at the Society offices? ⓘ
No. Though most committees do meet at the NYCPA’s 200 Madison Ave location, some take place at the offices of committee members, and some happen virtually.
What if I am unable to attend in person, can I call in? ⓘ
Yes. We offer a teleconferencing for almost all committee meetings, as well as video conferencing for certain meetings.
Is there a limit to how many committees I can serve on? ⓘ
No. We do not limit the number of communities a member may serve on at any given time.
How long may I serve on a committee? ⓘ
There is no limit as to length of service on committees (except for oversight committees, which involve automatic appointments of committee chairs).
What if there is another member from my company on the same committee?ⓘ
No problem: We allow multiple members from the same firm to serve on committees together.
Do I have to wait for the beginning of the committee year to join? ⓘ
No. Members can apply for committee service at anytime during the committee year.

How can I find out the next meeting date for a committee? ⓘ
All scheduled committee meetings are posted on the Society’s website, along with a list of current members.
