Nassau Chapter looks forward to an exciting and active year

By Mark R. Cuccia
Nassau Chapter President

It is truly an honor and privilege to be installed as the 68th president of the NYSSCPA’s Nassau Chapter. I look forward to serving you as chapter president and continuing the great work accomplished by my past presidents.

We kicked off the new fiscal year by celebrating and bringing back our installation dinner on May 23 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. It was a fantastic evening filled with dinner, dancing and connecting with friends and colleagues. Thank you again to all our sponsors that night and to those who sponsor our chapter events all year long. Without your generosity and support, our committees would not be able to carry on all the great seminars and events for our members and community.

I want to welcome our new incoming officers: Vivian Jin, past president; Kristina Albarella. president-elect; Alyssa Popov, vice president; Nike Theos, treasurer; and Anthony Perrone, secretary, as well as our incoming executive board: Natalie Verbanac, Franco Martorana, Michael Katz, Ken Rick, Michael Holmstrom and Melissa Lehr. I am looking forward to working with all of you and having another successful year. I would also like to thank our immediate past president, Vivian Jin, and the exiting board for their hard work and dedication to the chapter.

We are looking forward to a very exciting and active year, starting with our annual golf outing on Monday, Aug. 28, at the Wind Watch Golf and Country Club in Hauppauge. Registration is open and sponsorships are available. Please visit the registration page for more details. We are also in the process of planning several other networking events, including our CPA Fest, Networking with Professionals night, Women’s Focus Group networking event, as well as some events hosted by our NextGen Committee. Stay tuned for more details. We also have our popular all-day tax conference on Nov. 30, and our all-day accounting and auditing conference tentatively scheduled for Nov. 10. Both are being hosted jointly with the Suffolk Chapter. Be on the lookout for email blasts and check our chapter website for further details and the registration link.

Lastly, I would like to ask all our members to get more involved in the chapter and to encourage the next generation of accountants to do the same. We all know the struggles our profession is having over the last few years getting and retaining talent, as there are fewer students going into the accounting profession. By encouraging them to get involved either by joining the Society or attending one of our various networking events, it will highlight the fact that the profession is not just sitting behind a desk all day crunching numbers. The hope is that they will be excited by their career choice and in turn will spread the word to their friends so that our chapter and profession will continue to be a great career choice.

Again, I look forward to serving you as chapter president and in helping make this chapter one of the best in the state.
