Mr. John Brosnan entered on duty with the FBI in September 1995 and began working white collar crime matters in the New York Field Office later that same year. As a special agent in New York, Mr. Brosnan was the case agent on "Operation Uptick," which resulted in the arrests of over 125 individuals, including made members of all five organized crime families, a New York City detective, stockbrokers, hedge fund managers, and accountants. The case was described as "the largest securities fraud case in history" by former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Mary Jo White. He received the United States Attorney's Office Director's Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement for his work in this investigation. He also served as acting supervisory special agent in the New York Field Office during the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City. In August 2002, Mr. Brosnan was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Counterterrorism Division International Operation Section II at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for the Iraq Counterterrorism Program and the FBI’s Darkening Clouds Initiative during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In January 2005, Mr. Brosnan was assigned to the Philadelphia Field Office where he served in various leadership positions within the division, including supervisory special agent of the white collar and cyber squads. In August 2009, Mr. Brosnan was named the supervisory senior resident agent at the Newtown Square Resident Agency with responsibility for all counterterrorism, cyber, and criminal matters with federal jurisdiction in Chester and Delaware Counties. In October 2011, Mr. Brosnan was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Philadelphia Field Office where he oversaw all public corruption, white collar crime, and civil rights matters. In March 2017, Mr. Brosnan was promoted to section chief of the Violent Crimes Against Children Section in the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters with responsibility for managing crimes against children matters, including child abductions, child sex trafficking, child sex tourism, and online child sexual exploitation. Director Christopher Wray named Mr. Brosnan special agent in charge of the Criminal Division in the New York Field Office in January 2018. Mr. Brosnan is a native of Whitestone, New York. He graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. in accounting and was subsequently hired by the "Big Four" accounting firm Deloitte and Touche. He is also a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) and certified fraud examiner (CFE).
